Cooking Attempts: Pasta with white sauce and chicken

Wee. Made my first cream based pasta dish today. I referred to some recipes on the internet and the recipe on the back of the all purpose cream pack for some inspiration. lol

Ingredients:
200g penne
1/3 cup all purpose cream
1/3 cup of milk
1/3 cup of quickmelt cheese
2 eggs
300g sliced chicken breasts
2 tbsp minced garlic
2 tbsp olive oil
black olives (optional)
salt & pepper to taste

serves me three

Rough steps that I probably should not forget
1. cook penne in pot (12 minutes); set aside
2. mix the cream, milk, cheese, eggs in a bowl
3. saute garlic and chicken
4. Add in the sauce and mix
5. Add in the pasta and mix

Notes:
  1. Initially thought I didn't have enough sauce but it turned out okay afterwards.
  2. Still need to figure out how to manage that sauté setting on the induction cooker so I avoid overcooking ze garlic.
  3. Should probably choose another cheese next time.

Rurouni Kenshin thoughts

So I just watched Rurouni Kenshin: Kyoto Inferno.

Fave fights:
1. Sojiro vs Kenshin
2. Okina vs Aoshi

Sads:
1. Aoshi seems so one dimensional
2. Still no Saito awesomeness. I hope they at least show the Saito vs Usui fight in the final film this September.

Other thoughts:
It really doesn't feel like a film that you can watch without at least having some knowledge about the manga or the anime, but I guess that it'd be difficult to compress so much of the story into just two hours.

Commuter Stories #1: Brother wanna thank your mother for a butt like that

I don’t use the music player function of my phone, a MyPhone if you are curious.
Music just plays in my head. It can be a mash-up of a few artists, a straight up rendition or something original.

I also like butts. :p

How do those relate? Last week, the song that was running in my head was Salt n’ Peppa’s Shoop.

Lo and behold, some guy wearing some butt hugging slacks was walking to the beat of that song. It was totally in time. Seriously. I checked. lol.

Morning commutes can be fun sometimes :)

P.S. That song is apparently 20 years old.

Road to CIA 2014: 2nd week review

A recap of Week 1:

I wonder if I can sustain documenting my journey towards certification. Lol.

Anyhow, I survived week 2 of the CIA review series.
Good news: I got the highest on the seatwork
Bad news: That score was still below passing

The logic behind the questions is getting familiar though. Reading up in advance should help sustain my momentum.

The family deaths

I normally don't write about this stuff, but I think it was time I vented this out.

The loss of a loved one is something I got exposed to somewhat early in life. I lost my grandfather (Cebu) when I was in 2nd year high-school (14yrs old). My last living memory of him is the sound of his voice via a phone call -- the sound of weak struggling breaths and no other words. The youthful sense of invincibility cracked at that point. You'll never see him again during school vacations. Everyone you know will eventually fade away.

I lost my other grandfather (Manila) when I was in 4th year high-school. My last living memory of him was him lying comatose in a hospital bed only breathing normally via life support. That was the time I learned to dislike being in hospital wards and their tubes. Helplessness in a situation is a frustrating feeling to have.

October 14, 2013 - my grandmother (Manila) died in her sleep. She had just been discharged from the hospital a few days prior. Pneumonia had left her in a coma for more than a week, but she managed to recover.

Early this morning, my mom called and told me that my other grandmother (Cebu) had died at home. It was sudden, it was unexpected, it drove me to treat everything else for the day as a distraction. The last news I heard before this about her, was that she was okay, but scared due to the earthquakes that had occurred last October 15.

And here I am now, packing once more to go to another gathering.

There are other family deaths, of course. But these are about the coupled ones that I grew up with. Those who represent my world view of companionable, long term love. I thank them for showing me that and more in the time I've spent with them.
